2019-20 SEASON SNEAK PEEK
As BSB is hard at work crafting another season, we have some news we were too excited to wait to share: We just received word that we’ve been granted the rights to stage
the REGIONAL PREMIERE of Theresa Rebeck’s Broadway hit: BERNHARDT/HAMLET.
“It is delightful to undress a man and find a woman inside." - Edmond, Act I, Scene ii
In 1899, legendary leading lady Sarah Bernhardt decided to assume the title role of Shakespeare’s Hamlet leaving critics and patriarchs aghast and indignant, but she prevailed. In Theresa Rebeck's daring masterpiece, the playwright imagines--"with high humor and piercing insight, laced with forbidden romance and backstage gossip--the drama onstage and behind-the-scenes in this look at Bernhardt’s most ambitious role." A dynamic character study of one of the most famous actresses—and infamous divas—in the world" (Variety).
